Course Overview


Objective:

By the end of the course, participants will have learned how to confidently shoot, and edit a short video using their smartphones and tablets. They will leave with a film they can use for their social media or business.



Course Agenda:

Morning Session (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM)

 

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Welcome & Introduction

  • Introduction to the course and trainers.
  • Overview of the importance of video for small businesses.
  • Discuss the role of video in marketing (social media, website, customer engagement).
  • Brief on the day's agenda.

 

9:30 AM – 10:15 AM: Understanding Your Smartphone Camera

  • Basic settings: resolution, frame rate, and focus (demonstrating on different phone models).
  • Lighting basics: how to make the most of natural and artificial light.
  • Sound: recording clear audio with Bluetooth wireless mics.

 

10:15 AM – 11:00 AM: Storytelling & Scripting for Video

  • Defining the purpose of your video (promotion, education, customer story, etc.).
  • Basic scripting tips: how to plan your message.
  • Creating a simple shot list for your video.
  • Hands-on: write a basic script and plan for a short film (30-second to 1-minute video).

 

Break 11:00 AM – 11:15 AM

 

11:15 AM – 12:45 PM: Framing, Shooting Techniques & Practice

  • Framing basics: rule of thirds, headroom, and looking room.
  • Demonstrating the 5 main types of shots (close-up, medium, wide) etc.
  • Stabilization techniques: holding your phone steady or using gimbals or simple tripods.
  • Hands-on: groups practice shooting their scripted videos.


Lunch Break (12:45 PM – 1:30 PM)

 

Afternoon Session (1:30 PM – 4:30 PM)

1:30 PM – 2:15 PM: Reviewing Footage

  • Group discussion: Reviewing the footage shot in the morning.
  • Feedback on camera work, framing, and content.
  • Highlight key learning points from the footage.

2:15 PM – 3:15 PM: Basic Editing on Tablets

  • Introduction to basic editing apps (e.g., iMovie, CapCut).
  • How to trim clips, add transitions, and include text overlays.
  • Music and audio: how to add music tracks or voiceovers.
  • Hands-on: participants edit the footage they shot earlier.


Break (3:15 PM – 3:30 PM)


3:30 PM – 4:15 PM: Platform-Specific Settings

  • Social media guidelines: best video settings for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • How to export videos in the right format and resolution for each platform.
  • Hands-on: exporting the finished video based on where they plan to upload it.

4:15 PM – 4:30 PM: Final Review & Wrap-Up

  • Showcase some of the videos made by participants.
  • Final feedback and tips for improving future videos.
  • Q&A session.



Candidates must bring:

  • Smartphones for shooting
  • Tablets for editing

 



Outcomes:

Participants will leave the course with:

  • A good understanding of how to shoot and edit video content for their businesses.
  • A completed short film (30 seconds to 1 minute) that can be used immediately.
  • The ability to repeat the process for future business video needs.
